The game started off differently than it did in game 1. In game the first pitch started off with an inside the park home run by Escobar, but this game started off with three quick outs, everyone knew it would be a different game. Harvey had two strike outs in the first inning to solidify that the game would be different. It was also different for Volquez, for the first batter of the game, he had given up a home run to Granderson for the Mets to take the lead in the first inning.
Then nothing but silence from both teams until the bottom of the 6th inning. Only two hits collectively by the two teams had happened since the end of the first inning. Harvey dominated the mound with 8 strike outs up until the end of the 6th inning, that is 8 of 18 outs were strike outs. In the bottom of the 6th the Mets starting coming back into the game. Walks, hits, and errors were the story of the bottom of the 6th for the Royals. The Mets had only gotten one run in this inning after having bases loaded with no outs. They were now up 2-0 at the end of the 6th.
It is still 2-0 going into the top of the 9th, Harvey is dominate still, just a few hits have been given up. The Mets plan on bringing in their closer Familia for the final inning, and Harvey is having none of that. He had gotten off the bench and went to the manager and proclaimed that this game was his to finish, so the manager left him in. The first batter was a walk by Harvey to Cain, then Cain stole second base, their is now a runner is scoring position. Hosmer hit a double into deep center to score Cain, and now Hosmer is in scoring position. They had no choice but to put Familia in the game, although he has had a poor World Series. Familia has two blown saves coming into game 5, that means 2 of the 3 games the royals won were given up by Familia. So they put him in and then soon after he had given up another run. The score is 2-2 at the end of the top half of the 9th, Famila now has three blown games in the World Series.
Nothing had happened until the 12th inning. Reed came in to pitch for the Mets, and the Royals made him pay. Walks, hits, and stolen bases was the story for this inning. Long story short, the Royals scored 5 runs off 4 hits. It is now 7-2 and the Mets have little to no hope to come back in this game. The Mets did not come back, the game ended with a strike out looking, just like they watched the Royals walk all over them. It has been 30 years in the making, but the Royals did it, they are World Series Champions.
