What they say is true, there is only one October. This week in Major League Baseball there has been full of parties and disappointments. This week teams clinched their trip to the World Series, others on the other had, have not. There is a big fight for the NL Wild Card for there spot in the World Series, Chicago Cubs Vs Pittsburgh Pirates. While the AL wild card race has yet to be clinched. The biggest news of this year has been the Toronto Blue Jays.
Since the trading deadline in July, the Toronto Blue Jays have been on a tear, and ending their season with a spot in the World Series by winning the AL East. Toronto has a record of 92-66 with just a few games left, neck-and-neck with the Royals. Since they picked up Troy Tulowitzki at the trading deadline the Jays have strove to be the best. The team has hit a collective 223 home runs this season and Astros are right behind them with 220. With the first games of the World Series right around the corner, the Jays face off with the Royals trying to get the best record in the American League.
The Kansas City Royals, the 2014 World Series Runner-ups, The 1985 World Series Champions, whatever you know them by. You know they are thirsty for that Championship rings on their fingers. The Royals have clinched the AL Central and have a ticket to the Playoffs, a new chance to repair what happened last year. The Royals have replayed the last play of game 7 last year against the Giants, just a simple pop-out to Pablo Sandoval in foul territory to end the year. It is like a nightmare that replays, and replays in the players heads, and the only way to stop it is with a championship this year. The Royals started the season hot as can be, one might call it fire from the year before that burns in their stomach. Then they got burnt out towards the end of the season and it scares the average Royal fan. Once they see that they made it through the regular season, that same fire will come back from last year. The biggest question mark of the American League is the AL West.
The AL is a three way battle between the Houston Astros, Texas Rangers, and the Los Angeles Angles. The race looks like its going to go to The Texas Rangers. The Astros and the Angles are 2.5 and 3 games back, respectively. The Rangers play the Angles in a 4 game series starting today (Thursday Oct, 1). There are so many outcomes for what could happen for the rest of the week with this AL West race, they best way to see what happens is to just sit back and watch. When the season is over, two teams in the race for the wild card will be ready to play, the other two will go home knowing they were that close to a potential playoff run.
The wild card race for the American league is just as close as the American League West. Three teams are shooting for two spots. The Yankees, Astros, Rangers, and Angles are all going for the wild card. Whoever wins the AL West will have it easy (could be Rangers, Angles, or Astros, which is why I said three teams) they will be the team that gets to avoid the Yankees in a Wild Card game. Can Trout carry the Angles to the playoffs? What about DeShields putting the team on his back? Can Altuve show off his second base swag and bring the Astros to the playoffs? Sit back, enjoy the games, it'll be a wild ride.
Blue Jays finally make it to the Playoffs.
